Ruby Slippers
Learning and Development

Welcome to Ruby Slippers.

As health & care professionals and educators we often find ourselves taking care of others most of our time, and only pay attention to our own needs when we are experiencing burnout or stress. Even then, we can find it hard to account for our own needs, ask for those needs to be met in our workplace, family relationships or friendships.

Ruby Slippers has been created to support you, and others like you to thrive in your roles, and support your own wellbeing whilst you do the work of caring for and supporting others

Supervision, mentoring and training programmes are practical applied learning opportunities underpinned by Occupational Science and Transactional Analysis theory and tools you can apply straight away in your daily life. Meaningfully supporting your wellbeing whilst investing in your personal and professional development.

If you are are a trainee Transactional Analyst you can count hours towards your accreditation.

Occupational Therapist and other HCPC registered health and care practitioners can count hours towards maintaining their registration to practice.

Ruby Slippers philosophy is underpinned by:

  • Everyone has the right to be healthy, happy and to thrive in what they do- including health & care practitioners and educators.
  • Everyone can evolve, grow and change, given the right environment, resources and support for their psychological development across the life span- not only in  childhood.
  • Everyone has the right to, and can choose to take an alternative path to the one they are on.
  • Everyone has the right to and ability to be at home in the world even if it's not the one they want.

About Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is the art and science of how we occupy our time, the spaces and communities we spend our time in and how these can help or hinder our wellbeing.

Occupational Therapists harness the power of our everyday occupations- that's the things we do to occupy our time- as therapeutic interventions or outcomes with individuals, groups or communities to support health and wellbeing.

Occupational Therapists work with people across the life span, they work holistically with the person to learn or relearn ways of engaging in their roles, habits, routines and occupations that are necessary or meaningful for them to do.

Reasons people may find themselves working with an Occupational Therapist could be illness or injury, environmental disruptions or socioeconomic factors impacting their capacity to make occupational choices which support wellbeing.

To practice in the UK, Occupational Therapists must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council HCPC

The professional body for Occupational Therapy in the UK is the Royal College of Occupational Therapy.

About Lisa Paul

I am an HCPC registered Occupational Therapist and a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy, previously a member of the Scottish Regional Committee of RCOT. I have previously heald Lecturing positions in Occupational Therapy at a number of universities in the UK.

As of June 2026 I am also a PTSTA-E (Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst in Education filed) with an MSc in Transactional Analysis. I was the chair of the Scottish Transactional Analysis Association from 2022-2025 and continue to be a member of the committee. I am a member of the European Association of Transactional Analysis.

I am also a Certified Sparketype Advisor- a powerful tool and process to support identifying the work that sparks you most.

My clinical practice is as a Specialist Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist and Head of Business Support and Customer Experience for an independent Occupational Therapy organisation who provide specialist rehabilitation for people who have sustained catastrophic injuries.

You can find out more about my 20 year career as an Occupational Therapist and 8+ year career as a Senior Lecturer on my LinkedIn profile.

I am most definitely an eternal student and an artist at heart. I love spending hours with my nose in a book or discussing the meaning of life with others. I balance my need for contact with my communities and the external world by recharging my batteries through painting and pottery.

Something I am deeply passionate about is enabling the health and wellbeing of other practitioners in my two fields of practice: Health & Care and Education. These areas of work attract people wanting to make a difference to the lives of others whilst challenging their own capacity to stay well and happy.

This passion and my eternal student nature lead me to learn more about psychology, counselling and even Reiki. Ultimately finding that Transactional Analysis complemented and enhanced my Occupational Therapy skills to enable others to find their path and feel at home in their own shoes.
